Excellence in Catholic Education Awards

Excellence in Catholic Education Awards

"The work that you do cannot be overstated; your students and your colleagues are better people because of your influence."

The Excellence in Catholic Education Awards honor teachers who represent the best in Catholic teaching across the diocese. Each year, administrators and colleagues at each school select one teacher to be recognized for their exceptional commitment to Catholic education through their leadership and service to their students, parents, colleagues, parishes and school communities.

Each school announces their Excellence in Catholic Education Award winner during the month of February. The school award winners are then considered for three Excellence in Catholic Education Diocesan Awards and the Elizabeth Ann Seton Award.

Diocesan Education Awards

Three Awards are Presented

Awarded to teachers who demonstrate exceptional commitment, leadership, and service to Catholic education in both words and actions. They demonstrate their commitment to Catholic education, and how their instruction supports student learning and Catholic values in and out of the classroom.

Elizabeth Ann Seton Award

One Award is Presented

Awarded to one exemplary teacher in the Catholic Diocese of Richmond whose instruction, support and service positively impacts Catholic education. The honoree is selected based on their selfless work in service of the Gospel in both word and deed, their dedication to Catholic education, their instructional expertise, and their witness to their faith to help transform the lives of our Catholic school students and communities. The award is named for Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, in recognition of her lifelong dedication to teaching and children.

Being a Catholic educator gives meaning and purpose to teaching. Catholic educators are doing what Christ demanded: to teach all that He commanded of us. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to follow the Great commission, to make disciples of the tiny nation I call my classroom.
