Teacher Licensure
Teachers in the Diocese of Richmond must be licensed through either the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) or the Virginia Catholic Education Association (VCEA). Applicants are encouraged to seek licensure through the VDOE.
Virginia Department of Education (VDOE)

Recertification Points and Professional Development
Teachers are required to participate in ongoing professional development in order to maintain licensure. Find out about professional development opportunities and how to earn recertification points while teaching in our schools.

Certificate of Attendance, provided by the diocese, will be distributed to attendees upon completion of the conference or workshop.
The local school providing professional development or a workshop for faculty members will create a Certificate of Attendance for attendees to be held in the teacher’s personal recertification portfolio and will be submitted at the time of license renewal.
The Certificate of Attendance must include:
- Title of Workshop or Professional Development
- Date
- Number of Hours
- Name of Attendee
Points are awarded in the OCS, not on the Certificate of Attendance.
University course work will be documented with official transcripts and submitted at the time of license renewal.
External professional development activities include conferences, webinars, outside workshops, classes, etc. Certificate of Attendance required for approval.
